Ingredients
Scale
8–10 taco shells (hard or soft, your preference)
1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce or pizza sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or more mozzarella)
3–4 oz pepperoni slices
Optional toppings: diced bell peppers, sliced jalapenos, olives, mushrooms
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or sausage until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess grease.
Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Stir in the tomato sauce or pizza sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
If using hard taco shells, warm them according to package directions. If using soft taco shells, warm them in a skillet or microwave until pliable.
Fill each taco shell with the meat filling. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese. Add pepperoni slices. Add any optional toppings like diced bell peppers, sliced jalapenos, olives, or mushrooms.
If desired, you can bake the assembled tacos for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the tacos on a baking sheet and bake for 5-10 minutes.
Serve immediately.
